Prior to installation, use a standard
smart card reader to verify your
smart card works correctly.
1. Turning on your PCs
Ensure all connected PCs are
turned on.
2. Connecting power
Using an appropriate wall-
socket adaptor, plug in the
provided power adaptor into
the smart card reader and plug
the other end into a wall outlet.
When power is supplied, the
smart card reader beeps for
one second and all LEDs blink
once.
3. Connecting to your PCs
Connect a USB cable from your
smart card reader to each PC.
Cable numbers correspond to
the numbered buttons on the
smart card reader. When
connected, all PC number LEDs
blink continually.
4. Inserting your smart card
With the chip facing toward
you, insert your smart card into
the slot on the smart card
reader. When the card is
inserted, the smart card reader
beeps for one second and all
LEDs turn off.
5. Initializing your
smart card reader
Press PC button 1 to initialize
the smart card reader on PC #1.
The LED for button 1 blinks for
five seconds and then turns
solid. The smart card appears in
the device manager of the first
PC.
Repeat for PC buttons 2-4.
NOTE:
When selecting a
different PC, the smart card
reader disappears from the
device manager of the previous
PC and appears under the
device manager of the selected
PC.
6. Using the smart card
reader
To associate the smart card
with another PC, press the
appropriate PC button on the
smart card reader. The smart
card disconnects from the
previous PC and connects to
the selected PC.
NOTE:
Removing the smart card
from its reader immediately
disassociates the smart card
and the reader from all
connected PCs. Smart card
aware applications notice the
absence of the smart card and
respond accordingly.
7. Using the reader after
smart card removal
To use a smart card after it has
been removed from a reader,
repeat steps 4 and 5 to
reinitialize the reader with all
connected PCs.
