Chapter 10: Installing the Wave Recording Archive Service

Wave Server Installation Guide

About archive browser user accounts

To use the Archived Recording Browser, you log on using an archive browser user name and 
password. 

Archive browser users do not necessarily correspond to Wave users, and you do not have to 
create an archive browser user for each Wave user who needs to search for and act on archived 
recordings. Multiple Wave users can log on to the Archived Recording Browser simultaneously 
using the same archive browser user name and password.

Typically, you create multiple accounts, each with different privileges to manage recordings, 
and then provide the appropriate archive browser user name and password to those Wave users 
who need to use the Archived Recording Browser. Each account can be shared by multiple 
Wave users.

Requirements

Archive server PC requirements

Caution:  

The Recording Archive Service should be installed on the archive server, a separate 

PC—not the Wave Server. Also, the archive server PC must be on your LAN—it cannot be 
remotely connected via the Internet. The archive server must be in the same subnet or domain 
as the Wave Server. 

The Recording Archive Service runs on a separate PC for the following reasons:

•

For reliability, since it has its own CPU, disk space, and database server requirements. 

•

To be able to handle the resource-intensive archiving process without negatively 
impacting Wave ISM performance, especially if you are archiving mailbox recordings in 
MP3 format. (For more about supported archived file formats, see “Minimum archive 
folder disk space requirements” on page 10-5.)

•

To be able to archive mailbox recordings from multiple Wave ISMs. 

The archive server PC must meet the following requirements:

Windows Server 2003, base release or higher

•

Windows XP SP2 or higher

Note:  

Note that Windows XP is limited to supporting a maximum of 10 

simultaneous connections by users running the Archived Recording Browser (for 
example, users playing back recordings.)
