1. Introduction
Thermo reaction can be carried out quickly and safely by placing the tubes into the thermoreactor heating block.
The Start-Temp key offers the possibility to set 5 different work temperatures (70, 100, 120, 150 and 160 °C) whilst the Time
key to set 4 different work times at the selected temperatures (30, 60, 120 or infinite).
ECO 8 and ECO 25 offer the possibility to thermoreact respectively 8 and 25 tubes simultaneously (Ø 16 mm).
ECO 8 model allows to hold also 1 test tube with Ø 22 mm.
2. Assembly and installation
Upon receipt and after having removed the packaging, please check the integrity of the instrument. The box includes:
•
ECO 8 or ECO 25
•
Power supply cord
•
Safety cover
•
Instruction manual
2.1 Electrical connection
Before connecting the instrument to the power supply, make sure that the values on the rating plate correspond to those of
the power supply. Connect the unit to the power supply using the transformer supplied.
Ensure that the socket and the relative cut-off device conform to current safety norms and easy to reach.
2.2 Start-up
Use the on-
off switch on the front of the unit to turn the unit on (position “−”). When switched on the unit all the leds blink for
few seconds. When the leds are off the unit is ready to be programmed at different work temperatures and times.
3. Operating controls
ON - OFF SWITCH
It turns the unit on and off. If the switch is in the “0” position the unit is off; “−” means it is on.
START-TEMP
When
Start-Temperature key
is pressed, a work cycle will start with the pre-set values and the
corresponding leds will light:
Temperature 160 °C and Time 30 min
.
The next pressing permits to select a different temperature: 160, 70, 100, 120 and 150 °C.
It’s possible to select different work temperature until the heating block has not reached the set
temperature and the count-
down is not working. After that the key doesn’t work anymore. If the
selected temperature is lower than the running temperature of the heating block, (when the Start-
Temp key is pressed) the work cycle will not start and all temperature leds will light intermittently,
signalling an error. To correct the error, select a temperature that is higher than the running
temperature or wait until the heating block cools down to a lower temperature than the temperature
to be programmed.
TIME
When the
Time key
is
pressed it’s possible to select the following different time: 120, 60, 30
minutes or ∞ (infinite). When a time is selected, the corresponding led will light. After switching on
the instrument, the Time key permits to set the time at the set temperature but not to start the
reaction cycle. The run time will start when the heating block reaches the set temperature.
TEMP. LED
When a led lights it means that a work cycle is running at the selected temperature.
If the leds are off a work cycle is not in progress.
TIME LED
When a pre-set time is selected the corresponding led will light. When the led blinks it means that
the selected temperature has been reached and the count-down has started.
3.1 Heating block temperature verification
The temperature is controlled electronically which ensures stability without temperature oscillations around the set point.
The Pt 100 probe provides high precision and does not require calibration because the internal software performs a self-
calibration every time the instrument is turned on. Check the heating block temperature with a 3mm probe using the VELP
Scientifica probe adaptor.
3.2 Power interruptions
The unit will register a black out or a lack of power supply as a manual stop. The work cycle will have to be restarted.
3.3 Safety features
The unit is protected against overheating by a thermostat that turns off the power supply when the temperature exceeds the
safety temperature. Temperature setting is continuously controlled by electronic equipment that stops thermoregulation if
anomalous measured are sensed. In case, all the leds start blinking and an acoustical warning signal sounds.
3.4 End of work cycle
At the end of the count-down the work cycle will stop automatically. To stop in every moment the work cycle turn off the
general switch. When the work session is completed, should the unit remain connected to the power supply, switch it off
using the on-off switch on the frontal panel.
