5.1 Introduction to Graphical Windshear

Display

The Graphical Windshear Display provides a graphical user interface to the AviMet LLWAS
system. Typically, the display is part of the WeatherView application and accompanied with
the LLWAS alert screen. The graphical display can be used by forecasters and other airport
personnel who want to observe wind conditions and windshear warnings at the airport.
The Graphical Windshear Display displays windshear alerts for each runway on the airport
map. The alerts are indicated with blinking alert boxes on the Areas Noted for Attention
(ARENA) and with an alarm sound. Windshear alerts are warnings generated by the system
when the calculated windshear and microburst conditions exist. In addition, the display
indicates wind conditions on each wind site with wind flags.

5.2 Graphical Windshear Display User

Interface

The user interface consists of the image of the airport, the round sensor site symbols, the
wind flags, and the Area Noted for Attention (ARENA) boxes, which indicate the windshear
alerts when they are issued. These elements are presented in detail later in this section.
The image of the airport is automatically displayed in the window. The window can also
include a map on the background.
The following figure shows an example of the graphical windshear display. Typically, the
LLWAS alert screen is displayed in the same window. For an example, see
