Rain Barrel Location:
Note:
Choose a downspout that has a level and firm
surface beneath so that the rain barrel will be level.
6. Position the rain barrel under the downspout and
mark the downspout at the midway point from
the top of the rain barrel to the bottom of the
rain barrel. Cur off the downspout at this mark.
[See Fig 3A]
Note:
It may be necessary to remove the
downspout from the wall to cut it.
7. Move the rain barrel into position against
the wall on the level surface and insert the
downspout on the wall into the rain barrel. Zip
the lid tightly around the downspout inserted
into the rain barrel.
[See Fig 4A]
Note:
The inserted downspout will add stability
to the empty rain barrel until it gets filled with
water. However, it is recommended to add a
couple inches of tap water to the rain barrel for
added weight and stability to prevent movement
by heavy wind etc. Once water is collected in the
rain barrel, it can be emptied through the bottom
spigot or unzip the top and use a watering can.
Off Season Storage:
At the end of the season the rain barrel should be emptied and stored
in a heated place in order to prevent freezing or damage to your rain
barrel.
Warning:
Never allow children to play in or around the rain barrel. Always securely
attach the lid to avoid a child drowning.
Never drink water from the rain barrel. Use water from the rain barrel for
watering or outdoor cleaning purposes only.
Always place the rain barrel on a flat and solid surface. Check the
downspout does not contain heating cables before cutting when
installing use safety glasses and protective gloves.
