adapting the Base Station for the specific features of the particular coastal
equipment.

Assignment of synchronization sources
Assignment of synchronising sources is made in much the same way. It should be
noted, however, that for each synchronising source a pair of ports if set: a serial
port for the reception of NMEA sentences containing UTC from the GNSS receiver
and a discrete input for the PPS signal from the same GNSS receiver.
The “Change” button allows the virtual source assignments to be changed. The
“Reset” button deletes all the user-entered assignments and sets standard
assignments in compliance with IEC-62320-1 standard.
Not all external devices can be used as sync source. If NMEA sentence with UTC
information is delayed more than 0.5 s relevant of 1PPS front edge pulse or is ahead
more than 0.1 s then the synchronisation will be incorrect. Base Station work with
incorrect synchronisation is prohibited because it will garble (destroy) VDL
messages. Before connecting external sync source be sure that it has required
parameters: NMEA sentence is tied to 1PPS with necessary tolerance.
AIS Base Station T214 has the possibility to use second synchronization source
connected to the following external ports:
•
1PPS connector to connect 1 PulsePerSecond source
•
Sensor port to connect NMEA UTC time source.
Virtual synchronization sources are created in the Configuration->Setup-
>Sensor setup->Sync. sources menu. The “Sync. sources” screen is displayed.
Select the source by ID and press “Change” button. The following screen will appear
