Managing Power
This
chapter
describes
how
to
power
the
receiver,
charge
the
detachable
batteries,
and
use
an
external
power
source.
Turning On/Off the Receiver
To
turn
on
the
receiver,
press
and
hold
the
power
button
until
the
LEDs
briefly
flash.
When
the
receiver
is
turned
on,
the
receiver’s
channels
initialize
and
begin
tracking
all
visible
satellites
at
any
time
and
location.
To
turn
off
the
receiver,
press
and
hold
the
power
button
for
more
than
three
and
less
than
10
seconds
(release
the
power
button
when
the
BATT
LED
blinks
solid
red).
This
delay
prevents
the
receiver
from
being
turned
off
by
mistake.
Using Internal and External Power Sources
The
receiver
is
powered
by
the
detachable
batteries
or
an
external
power
source
connected
to
the
power
port.
If
an
external
power
source
is
connected,
the
receiver
draws
power
from
it
over
the
battery.
The
receiver
will
draw
a
small
amount
of
power
from
the
batteries
when
it
is
turned
off.
If
the
receiver
is
placed
in
storage
for
a
long
period,
such
as
a
few
months,
the
batteries
may
become
fully
discharged.
You
will
need
to
use
an
external
power
supply
or
recharge
the
batteries
before
use.
