Operating Principle 

The detector is designed for ultraviolet (UV) and visible (VIS) absorption 
spectroscopy in combination with HPLC or UHPLC separations. After 
sufficient separation from other sample compounds, the analysis of the 
target compound follows the Beer-Lambert law. This means that the 
response of the detector is proportional to the concentration of the 
analyte. 

The following picture shows the optics of the detector, and illustrates 
how the detector operates:
