Creating a New Video Calibration

The video image in OMNICxi software is directly related to the stage position and the 
magnification of the selected objective. When you change the objective on the microscope, 
the dimensions of the video system’s field of view change. Calibrating the video image defines 
the new size, in micrometers, of the video system’s field of view so the image data accurately 
describes the sample.

OMNICxi software provides a way to create and save video calibrations for your different 
objectives. This lets you retrieve the appropriate calibration when you change the objective, 
rather than having to recalibrate the video image. To retrieve a video calibration for an 
objective that was previously calibrated, use the 

Objective

 list box in the OMNICxi 

Acquisition window. If you have a new objective that has never been calibrated, follow these 
steps to create and save a calibration for that objective.

After the calibration data has been created for each of your objectives, recalibrate in the 
following situations:

• After reinstalling a single objective, recalibrate that objective

• After reinstalling the 

nosepiece

 on the microscope, recalibrate all the objectives

• After moving the instrument, recalibrate all the objectives

This section explains how to create a new video calibration and work with existing 
calibrations.

Tools needed:

• Objective that requires a video calibration

• Video calibration slide (provided with the system)
