Powering On the TSQ 9000 System

TSQ 9000 Hardware Manual

Thermo Scientific

5. Check the lights on the front of the instrument to make sure it is ready for use.

•

Power

—If the Power light is a solid green, the instrument is powered on. When the

light is not lit, the instrument is not powered on.

•

Vacuum

—After the instrument is powered on, it can take up to 10 minutes to

achieve proper vacuum. During this initial power-up, the vacuum light will slowly
blink orange. If the vacuum light begins blinking orange quickly, you have a large
leak that is preventing the instrument from achieving vacuum. If this occurs, turn the
power off, find and fix the leak, and power-on the instrument. The Vacuum light also
blinks orange quickly when the vacuum pumps are turned off and the system is safe
to vent, during instrument shut down, or if the foreline pump has failed. When the
Vacuum light is a solid green, the instrument is under high vacuum.

•

Heaters

—To check the temperature, look at the Heaters light on the front door.

When the Heaters light is a solid green, the instrument is at temperature. If it is
blinking orange, the ion source and/or transfer line are not at temperature. If the light
is not lit, the heaters are not turned on.

Tip

The mostly likely causes of not achieving vacuum are the vent valve needs to

be closed, the column nut needs to be tightened, or the column was not installed
correctly.

Note

Until the Vacuum light is a solid green (high vacuum is achieved), the

heaters will not power on, and the Heaters light will not be lit. The heaters will
turn on for about 30 seconds on initial power-up. If the Vacuum light is not a
solid green at that time, the heaters will turn off until the Vacuum light is green.
