• Vacuum —If Vacuum is slowly blinking orange, you have not achieved vacuum yet. If
it is blinking orange quickly, you have a large leak that prevented the instrument from
achieving vacuum. You need to turn the power off, find and fix the leak, and
power-on the instrument. Most likely, the vent valve needs to be closed, the column
nut needs to be tightened or the column was not installed correctly. The Vacuum
light also blinks orange quickly when the vacuum pumps are turned off and the
turbomolecular pump has not yet spun down below 50% speed. When the Vacuum
light is a solid green, it is under high vacuum.
• Heaters —To check the temperature, look at the Heaters light on the front door.
When the Heaters light is a solid green, the instrument is at temperature. If it is
blinking orange, the ion source and/or transfer line are not at temperature. If the light
is not lit, the heaters are not turned on.
• Busy —If the Busy light is a solid blue, the instrument is actively scanning. When the
light is not lit, the instrument is not scanning. The Busy light is also lit when
establishing communication with the computer, when the filament or electron
multiplier is on, or when purging the CI reagent gas ports.
6. Open the ISQ Dashboard on the computer.
Note Until the Vacuum light is a solid green (high vacuum is achieved), the heaters will
not power on and the Heaters light is not lit. The heaters will turn on for about 30
seconds on initial power-up. If the Vacuum light is not a solid green at that time, the
heaters will turn off until the Vacuum light is green.
