INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Read instructions thoroughly before beginning.
2.
Open the vehicle’s rear hatch. Remove both the left
(driver’s) and right (passenger) side tail light assemblies by
removing two 8mm bolts per side and pulling the tail lights
away from the vehicle (Fig. 1).
3.
Locate the wiring harness connectors on the back of the
tail light housings. The connectors will be similar to those on
the T-Connector harness. Remove the connectors from the
tail lights, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. The
connectors should be clean and free of dirt or debris. Clean
the connectors if necessary.
4.
Unseat the rubber grommet found behind the tail light
housing on both sides of the vehicle (Fig. 2). Using a utility
knife, make a small slit in each grommet from the center
out, away from the factory wiring harness, taking care not to
damage any wires (Fig. 3).
5.
Temporarily remove the cargo are mat and spare tire
cover and set aside. Remove the rear threshold (Fig. 4A) and
side Cargo trays from both sides of the spare tire (Fig. 4B).
Remove the left (driver’s) side cargo tiedown and carefully pull
the left interior trim panel away from the vehicle body, taking
care not to damage any alignment tabs or the trim panel (Fig.
5).
6.
Beginning on the left (driver’s) side, route the T-Connector
ends containing Yellow wires behind the interior trim panel
and out through the grommet hole exposed in step 4. Position
the T-Connector ends with the Yellow wires between the
separated vehicle connectors, pressing firmly together until
they lock into place. Take care not to damage the locking tabs.
7.
Route the T-Connector ends containing the Green wire &
4-Flat connector down through opening behind the left side
trim panel. Continue routing across the rear of the vehicle
under the threshold area to the right (passenger) side and out
through the right side grommet hole.
Caution: Avoid any other points that might pinch or
damage the wires.
8.
Repeat step 6 for the right (passenger) side, using the
T-Connector ends with the Green wires.
9.
Raise the vehicle’s hood and disconnect the Negative (-)
battery cable.
10.
Route the 12 gauge coiled black wire from the battery
compartment under the vehicle along the frame and up
through the opening at the bottom of the left (driver’s) side
tail light pocket. Continue routing the black wire through the
grommet hole to the T-Connector’s black box (Fig. 6). Secure
the wire to the vehicle using cable ties provided.
Caution: Avoid any exhaust, hot pipes, heat shields, the
fuel tank or any other points that might pinch or damage
the wires. When routing wire through metal or other sharp
surfaces, always utilize an existing grommet, provide a
grommet or insulate the wire from the hole with silicone
rubber.
11.
Cut the wire loop on the supplied fuse holder in a central
position and strip approximately 5/16” of insulation from each
end. Crimp one end of the fuse holder to the black wire near
the vehicle battery using the yellow butt connector provided.
Crimp the opposite end of the fuse holder to the supplied ring
terminal.
12.
With the fuse
removed
, attach the 3/8” ring terminal to
the vehicles positive (+) battery terminal (Fig. 7).
Warning: Do not attempt to connect the black power wire
to the vehicle fuse panel or any other accessory wiring.
Failure to connect directly to the vehicle battery could
cause vehicle damage and/or trailer lighting failure.
13.
At the rear of the vehicle, Strip 5/16” of insulation from
the black 12 Ga. wire and connect it to the black wire on the
T-Connector using the butt connector provided.
14. ATTACHING THE GROUND WIRE:
14a.
Option 1:
Locate a clean accessible mounting location
on the vehicle within reach of the white wire and drill a 3/32”
hole.
Caution: Take care not to drill through the body or any
exposed surface.
15a.
Mount the white wire using the ground screw and ring
terminal provided.
14b.
Option 2:
Locate the factory ground bolt behind the
left (driver’s) side interior trim panel (Fig. 8). Using an 8mm
socket, temporarily remove the factory ground bolt.
15b.
Place the T-Connector’s White wire with the ring terminal
on the 8mm bolt and reattach, ensuring the bolt is securely
tightened to the vehicle.
16.
Reattach the vehicles Negative (-) battery wire.
17.
Place the 10 amp fuse into the fuse holder installed in step 9.
18.
Confirm trailer harness operation with a test light or by
using a properly equipped trailer.
Note: All connections must be complete for the
T-Connector to function.
18.
Mount the T-Connector’s black box behind the interior trim
panel using the foam tape supplied. Secure all loose wires
using the cable ties provided.
19.
Re-Seat the grommets behind the tail lights, guiding the
T-Connector wires into the gromments through the slit cut in
step 4.
20.
Replace the vehicle tail lights using the original fasteners,
and secure the vehicle threshold to it’s original position taking
care not to pinch or damage any wires. Return all trim panels,
cargo storage trays and covers and the left side cargo hook
to their original positions, securing with fasteners removed in
previous steps.
