Set a Static Route
Connect to the IP Management Network
Set a Static Route
To access the unit remotely from an external network, a manual static route needs to be
configured, using the following command at the system prompt:
8820#
enable
config protocol ip route
24.0.1.0/24 24.0.1.1
Connect the Ethernet (IP Management) Port
When you obtained the 8820 MSR, you also received a cable to connect the router to your
management IP network, using the 8820 MSR Ethernet port. To connect the 8820 MSR
switch to a management IP network, connect the cable from the 8820 MSR Ethernet port to
a management IP network port.
Connect to the IP Management Network
You will need network parameters, using information available from your network
administrator or site plan. You will need to provide the following information to manage
the unit from an IP network:

Network Subnet Mask

Gateway Address
To assign the network parameters for the 8820 MSR, perform the following steps:
Step 1
Log on to the console interface and bring up the CLI.
Step 2
Assign the IP address and network subnet mask by entering the management IP
configuration command, similar to the following example:
8820# >enable config system mgmt-ip ip-address 10.20.0.13/24
8820# >enable config system mgmt-ip default gateway 10.20.0.1
