Configuring the PVCs

Refer to

6.4.1 - Introducing ATM

for an introduction on PVC, VPI and VCI.

Somewhat similar to the DLCIs in a Frame Relay network (refer to

6.3.3 - Configuring the DLCIs

), you can set-up PVCs in the ATM network. A PVC allows direct connectivity between sites. In

this way, a PVC is similar to a leased line. A PVC guarantees availability of a connection and does not
require call setup procedures between switches. Use the

pvcTable

to set up (a) PVC(s). Refer to

telindus1031/g703[ ]/channel[ ]/atm/pvcTable

.

Example

The following figure gives an example of a local Ethernet segment connected to three different networks
