In this section:
This section describes the remote operation of the power supply via the communication
ports.
INTRODUCTION
In addition to the front panel interface, the power supply can be remotely controlled through
the various remote interfaces. The power supply implements the SCPI standard as its
command line interface for remotely controlling the power supply. Additionally, a small
subset of legacy commands has been provided for ease of use and backwards compatibility.
All of the remote interfaces use the same command line interface.
Important:
When using SCPI commands over a remote interface, wait at least
100 ms before sending another command. The preceding command must finish
executing before another command is received to avoid input buffer overrun.
Some commands take longer than 100 ms to execute; those commands are noted
in this reference.
This section is divided into two parts:
•
Hardware and Connection Setup provides information on how to setup a connection to
the different remote interfaces available on the power supply. The remote interfaces
covered include RS-232, RS-485, USB, and GPIB. Setting up LAN/Ethernet for remote
operation starts on page 117.
•
Command Line Interface and SCPI explains how to send commands to the power
supply using the SCPI commands and the theory behind SCPI.
Important:
Always start communication with the instrument by first sending
the *ADR <address> command to select the unit you want to talk to - even if
you are using only a single unit. If you do not do this, the instrument may not
respond to commands.
HARDWARE AND CONNECTION SETUP
This section provides information on setting up the hardware and is organized into setup for
each hardware type. Once the setup has been successfully completed, data can be sent to and
responses received from the power supply. Select which hardware interface to use and follow
the instructions and diagram for that hardware set up.
