Homologation and intended use
WARNING
An extinguishing system that is unsuitable for your vehicle, or that is not properly installed, will provide reduced
protection and will increase the risk of injury or even death.
The extinguishing systems in the CESAL 3 series are suitable for installation on saloon, sport, and single-
seater competition cars with rear or forward gasoline engines, and are type-tested for this application according
to the "FIA Standard for Plumbed-in Fire Extinguisher Systems in Competition Cars".
WARNING
Only use original OMP parts and components when installing the system. Using non-original components
invalidates the homologation of the system and voids the warranty. CEFAL 3 and CESAL 3 extinguishing
systems can extinguish a fire in the type of vehicle for which they are suited under design conditions.
Nonetheless, keeping in mind the large number of variables involved in a fire that are difficult to anticipate and
control, it cannot be guaranteed that this goal will be achieved under all conditions.
N.B. :CEFAL 3 and CESAL 3 extinguishing systems are intended to provide protection for the vehicle
occupants and not for the vehicle itself.
WARNING
Motor racing is an inherently dangerous activity. Correct use of the extinguishing system in no way exempts
the user from abiding by driving rules or from using other safety devices that are required or recommended
when driving.
WARNING
When the control box lever switch is in the OFF position, the extinguishing system is disabled. Check that the
switch is in the ON position before using the vehicle.
2.12.4
Installing the electrical control
Position the controlling unit so that:
•
it is within reach of the driver wearing the seat belt.
•
it is within reach of the co-driver wearing the seat belt.
•
it is possible to see the LED of the test circuit
•
the control unit is protected from exposure to water
•
the control unit connector points downward, so that water cannot enter the unit from the connector.
WARNING
The Electrical Control Unit is not water proof. If the Control Unit circuit get wet, unwanted activation of the
extinguishing system might occur. Care should be taken to install the Control Unit in an area where it is
protected from direct splash of water. If at all possible, the connector should be pointing downward, with the
wiring making a loop underneath it (see fig. 12.3), so that water would not enter the Control Unit through the
connector. If it is not possible to place the Control Unit in an area where it is protected from water, it should be
protected with a cover in nylon or similar water proof material. When installed on the floor the Control Unit
should be raised up at least of 15mm on suitable AV mounts.
Open the rear compartment of the control unit (fastened with 4 screws) and install a fully charged 9V battery
(NOT PROVIDED) into the control unit. Close the compartment with the screws provided. Secure the control
unit in the vehicle with two M4 screws or quick clamps.
Before connecting the control unit to the bottle, use a multimeter to check that:
•
with the lever switch on the control unit in the OFF position, when either of the activation buttons is
pressed the potential difference between the ends of the wires is about 7 - 8V
•
with the lever switch on the control unit in the ON position, when either of the activation buttons is
pressed the potential difference between the ends of the wires is about 9V
•
when neither of the activation buttons are pressed the potential difference between the ends of the
wires is OV. (PLEASE NOTE: after pushing either of the activation buttons, Potential built up in the
system needs to be discharged before it gets back to zero. This can easily be achieved by touching
the connectors). Before connecting the cable to the valve, switch the control unit to OFF mode.
With the control unit switch in the OFF position, connect the bottle's explosive capsule. Make sure the
connector retention ring is tightly screwed onto the bottle (see fig. 12.4).
