6 – Working with files and folders
Creating new folders (CF cards)
1. Select the folder where you want to create a new
subfolder, and turn the
DATA
dial to select
NEW FOLDER
.
2. Press the
DATA
dial to open the
NEW FOLDER
screen.
3. Input the name for the new folder. Follow the instructions
in "Editing text" on page 33.
4. After you have completed entering the folder name, press
the
BROWSE
button to confirm it.
The words
-- FILE ACCESS --
and a progress bar appear
in a pop-up while the folder is created and the new folder
is created.
After creation is complete, the
BROWSE
screen reopens.
NOTE
Names containing characters other than the letters of the
•
alphabet, numbers and symbols cannot be edited (the name
will not appear when the RENAME function is being used).
The following symbols and punctuation marks cannot be
•
used in names.
¥ /: ;, * ? “ < > |
A maximum of 52 characters (single-byte) can be used
•
for folder names. Moreover, due to limitations of the
system, the full path on the BROWSE screen cannot exceed
255 characters. For example, the maximum number of
characters for a file or subfolder within a folder, including
the folders above it and separators, is 255.
Up to 255 folders can be created on a single CF card.
•
When using media with a capacity of 2 GB or less, the
•
maximum number of folders created in the root folder might
be less than 255 (file system limitations). A maximum of 255
folders, including subfolders, can be created.
You can connect a USB computer keyboard to the
•
KEYBOARD connector on the rear panel of the unit and use it
to edit text. (See "9 – Operation using a computer keyboard"
on page 47.)
File and folders on CF cards and data CDs
Some CF cards and data CDs store files inside folders in the same
way that ordinary computers do. In addition, several folders can
be stored inside another folder, creating a multilevel structure.
This unit assigns a folder number to each folder to manage
them. Folder numbers are assigned sequentially starting
with the folders at the highest level followed by the folders
(subfolders) inside them.
If the root folder of a CF card or data CD contains one or more
audio files, it will be numbered as the first folder.
Each audio file is also assigned a number. File numbers are
assigned in order starting from those in the lowest numbered
folder.
During ordinary playback of CF cards and data CDs, tracks are
played back in the assigned numerical order just like those on
audio CDs.
