Quick Setup Menu Option 6: Coding Mode
This is intended for future functionality. Currently, its setting cannot be
changed.

In the above display, asterisks show that the currently set FEC Rate is not valid for this
modulation and 8/9 will be set automatically.

8PSK and 16QAM modulations are only available with the HOM option.
Quick Setup Menu Option 8: FEC Rate
The output data are coded by the addition of convolutional Forward Error
Correction (FEC) bits, enabling errors which occur in the transmission
process to be corrected at the receiver (see Chapter 7, Equipment
Description, Forward Error Correction and Interleaving for further
information).
Six FEC options are provided: a value of
1

gives the highest error-
correction capability but has the largest overhead in bit-rate;
8
⁄
9
gives the
lowest error-correction capability but has the smallest overhead in bit-rate.
The allowable FEC values are dependent upon the Modulation currently
selected.

Quick Setup Menu Option 9: Roll-off
This parameter is used for selection of the roll-off factor of the Modulator’s
spectrum-shaping filters. ETSI standards EN 300 421 (DVB-S) and
EN 301 210 (DVB-DSNG) specify a roll-off factor of 35%. EN 301 210
optionally specifies a roll-off factor of 25% for use with 8PSK and 16QAM
modulations.
