When handset mode is turned on, the radio’s handset
microphone operates.
Note: The radio may have been programmed
so that handset microphone is the default
setting.
Caution: While using the handset micro-
phone, do not hold the speaker pressed against
your ear, or allow the antenna to touch your
body.
Turning Handset Mode On and Off
To turn handset mode on and off:

Press the assigned function key. The radio may have
been programmed so that handset mode automati-
cally turns off after a period of inactivity.
Adjusting Handset Volume
The radio may have been programmed so that the
function keys can be used as volume up and down keys
while in handset mode. Which keys act as volume
control keys can be listed on the ‘custom settings’ page
on the inside back cover of this manual.
Locking the Keypad
The keypad lock prevents you from pressing a key
accidentally. Which keys are locked depends on how
your radio was programmed, but the clear key can never
be locked.
To activate or deactivate the keypad lock:

Press the assigned function key.
OR
1 Enter the user settings menu as described at the
beginning of this section.
2 Short press the menu key, then scroll through the
available menu options until
KEYLOCK is displayed.
