Loudspeaker outputs and sub-woofer
Caution!
The connections marked
are hazardous, and must not be touched.
Connections between external cables and these points must be carried out by
trained personnel; alternatively ready-made cables must be used.
Caution!
Ensure that the screw-terminals are firmly tightened. Check for stray cable
strands which could cause short-circuits.
Caution!
The impedance of the loudspeakers connected to the system should not be
lower than 4
Ω
(DIN).
The output stages are designed for a minimum load of 2
Ω
, but if the machine is
run for protracted periods at high volume with this load, the high currents may
cause the power amplifiers to overheat, which would cause the protective circuit
to shut down the system automatically.
After connecting the loudspeakers, please complete the necessary settings for
your
speaker
configuration
in
the
System
configuration /
Loudspeakerconfiguration menu.
If you live outside the countries of the EU, you may wish to remove the red /
black stoppers from the loudspeaker terminals. In this case the speakers can be
connected using banana plugs.
The stoppers are only a push-fit in the terminals. They can be levered out of the
back of the terminal using a suitable tool (e.g. knife blade).
The
accessory range includes a selection of high-quality cables which are
designed to be a perfect match to
equipment.
FRONT RIGHT
FRONT LEFT
Front speaker terminals
The main loudspeakers are those located at front right and left in the room.
They are connected to these terminals.
CENTER
Centre speaker terminals
If your system includes a central front loudspeaker situated adjacent to the TV
set or projector screen, it should be connected to these terminals.
BACK (ZONE 2) RIGHT
BACK (ZONE 2) LEFT
Terminals for the BACK speakers
of a 7.1 surround system.
In a 7.1 system the rear (back) loudspeakers, located at rear right and left in the
room, are connected to these terminals.
If the BACK speaker terminals are not used for 7.1 surround in the main lis-
tening room, supplementary speakers for an additional listening zone / ad-
jacent room can be connected to these terminals.
SURROUND (ZONE 3) RIGHT
SURROUND (ZONE 3) LEFT
In a 5.1 system the rear surround speakers are connected to these terminals. In
a 7.1 system the right and left surround speakers are connected here.
If the SURROUND speaker terminals are not used for 5.1 or 7.1 surround in the
main listening room, supplementary speakers for an additional listening zone /
adjacent room can be connected to these terminals.
SUBW OUT
Output socket for an active sub-woofer.
A sub-woofer is optional.
If your system includes a sub-woofer, it must be switched on in the Loud-
speaker menu (see the Chapter
‘System settings, Loudspeakers
).
If
no
sub-woofer is present in your system, it is essential to disable the sub-
woofer in the Loudspeaker menu (see the Chapter entitled ‘
System settings,
loudspeakers’
) (
‘Sub-woofer off’
setting).
If no sub-woofer is present in the system, but the sub-woofer is not disabled in
the
‘Loudspeaker settings’
menu (Chapter ‘System settings’), then the low-
frequency part of the sound range will be absent from the system’s sound.
