Bass / Treble
(tone settings)
These two menu points can be used to alter the high-frequency (treble) and
low-frequency (bass) settings when required.
The primary purpose of the settings in the Tone menu is to compensate for
inadequacies in the audio mix of the recording currently being played.
If you wish to alter the fundamental tone settings for your loudspeakers, you
should make adjustments in the “Loudspeaker / Tone” menu.
Loudness
The
K8
is equipped with an automatic level-dependent volume control system
(
LOUDNESS
), designed to compensate for the frequency-dependent sen-
sitivity of the ear at very low volume, caused by the physiology of the human
auditory system.
This set-up option switches the level-dependent volume control on and off.
Dynamics
This menu point can be used to limit the dynamic range of audio reproduction,
i.e. to reduce the difference in volume between very quiet and very loud pas-
sages.
Set-up options:
Nightmode
Greatly reduced audio dynamic range. Quiet passages are
amplified significantly, loud passages are considerably
quieter. This setting is particularly suitable for listening at low
volume, e.g. when neighbours must not be disturbed.
Normal (Medium) Quiet passages are amplified slightly, whereas extreme
volume peaks are reduced. This setting is ideal for normal
listening at room volume.
Full
Full dynamic range, without compression. Since quiet pas-
sages are not lifted at this setting, it is important not to select
too low a listening volume, otherwise very quiet passages
may not be properly audible. There is no automatic reduc-
tion in the volume of loud effects, i.e. very high maximum
volume may be obtained at this setting.
If the Dolby Volume function is activated (see next page), this menu item is not
available because the dynamic range is set automatically in this case.
Lip-Sync
(sound delay)
Some video monitors - especially 100 Hz types, plasma screens and
progressive-scan monitors - generate the picture with a slight delay. In such
cases this may result in loss of synchronisation between sound and picture.
Since various source devices feature different picture transmission processes
(analogue, progressive, SDI, HDMI), the sound delay may also be caused by
the source device.
The Sound Delay menu point can be used to set a delay in sound reproduction
in the range 0 ... 500 ms, with the aim of synchronising sound and picture
perfectly (“lip-syncing”).
