Symantec Storage Shelf hardware removal and replacement

One fully-loaded or storage shelf weighs up to 33 kg.(73 lbs). More than two persons are
required to move and install each device. You can remove the power supplies if you want to
decrease the weight during installation.
Procedure
1. Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and ESD-preventive gloves.
2. Slide the Symantec Storage Shelf along the mounting rails into the rack
cabinet.
3. Fasten the rack handles securely.
4. Fasten all screws with an M4 Phillips screw driver.
5. Ensure that the Storage Shelf sits properly and all screws are secure.

Symantec Storage Shelf cover/chassis
The Symantec Storage Shelf chassis should not be opened. The only front panel
components that can be removed and replaced are the disk drive modules. On the
rear panel, the two I/O modules and two power supply modules can be hot-swapped.
Disk drives
The Symantec Storage Shelf accommodates 16 hot-swappable disk drive modules,
accessed through the front panel of the device. Each module includes two LEDs to
show disk and power/activity status.
The 16 drives are installed in the device prior to shipment. This section provides
information on removing and replacing disk modules in cause of faults or failure.
