Voices from magazine editors

On the highway, the B.O.S.S. is a beast. The distinctive three-airbox set-up feeds plenty of oxygen into the Mikuni 42mm throat,

and the five-speed transmission pulls in every phase, from a dead stop all the way into top gear. Shift cycles are so generous you

won’t even need fifth until, say, 70 mph. Judging by the merits of its powerplant alone, this is a touring machine, fully capable and

eager to please. But of course, it’s outfitted with a host of amenities to make the journey more comfortable.

Value is in the eye of the beholder, yet the 2013 Boulevard C90T does look more upmarket than its price tag reflects. The bike’s

general appearance makes it difficult for this reviewer to criticize. The big windscreen is positioned and designed to provide ample

protection at freeway speeds, with buffeting minimized by allowing just the right amount of air to pass above the headlight and

into the space between the screen and operator that normally induces turbulence between the screen and operator. Each bag

also is easily accessible from atop the bike, with the bags opening like a gaping clam once the ignition key is used in the locking

mechanism at the top of the bag.

Saddle up on the B.O.S.S.'s 28.3-inch seat (wider and flatter than the M90's) to find yourself in a comfortable touring-cruiser

position. There's a wide pullback handlebar right at your fingers and an open floorboard layout with a heel-toe shifter giving you

plenty of foot placement options. Its handling is surprisingly lively once up to speed, with neutral steering and good stability in the

corners. The tank-mounted multi- function instrument package is far more impressive, especially in this class; highlights include a

large analog speedometer, gear-position indicator, clock, and a large, five-segment LCD fuel gauge.
