Chapter 3: Maintenance and Component Installation
Installing Memory
Begin by removing power from the system as described in Section 3.1.
1. Starting with P1-DIMMA1, push the release tabs outwards on both ends of the DIMM
slot to unlock it.

2. Align the key of the DIMM with the receptive point on the memory slot and with your
thumbs on both ends of the module, press it straight down into the slot until the module
snaps into place.
3. Press the release tabs to the locked position to secure the DIMM module into the slot.
Caution:
Exercise extreme caution when installing or removing memory modules to prevent
any possible damage to the DIMMs or slots.
Notes:
1.
In dual-CPU configurations, memory must be installed in the DIMM slots associated with
the installed CPUs.
2.
When installing memory modules, be sure to populate the first DIMM module on
the blue memory slot, which is the first memory slot of a memory channel, and then
populate the second DIMM in the black slot if 2DPC memory configuration is used.
Removing Memory
To remove a DIMM, unlock the release tabs then pull the DIMM from the memory slot.
