56 TROUbLEShOOTING
7.1 INTRODUCTION
This section contains instructions for troubleshooting the compressor following a malfunction. Each
symptom of trouble for a component or system is followed by a list of probable causes of the trouble and
suggested procedures to be followed to eliminate the cause.
The procedures listed should be performed in the order in which they are listed, although the order may be
varied if the need is indicated by conditions under which the trouble occurred. In any event, the procedures,
which can be performed in the least amount of time and with the removal or disassembly of the fewest
parts, should be performed first.
7.2 COMPRESSOR WILL NOT START
POSSIbLE CAUSE REMEDY
Main disconnect switch open Close switch.
Line fuse(s) blown Replace fuse(s).
Control circuit breaker tripped Reset breaker.
Fault condition detected See Microprocessor for fault code (Refer to T1 Microprocessor
Controller Manual, p/n 18730-048).
Press RESET once fault condition is cleared.
Low incoming line voltage Check all voltages. If voltage is low or imbalanced, consult power
company.
Power failure Refer to 5.6 Restarts on page 43 .
Unit filled with oil Inlet valve is leaking. Replace inlet valve.
Unit or motor failure Replace unit or motor.
7.3 MACHINE WILL NOT bUILD UP FULL DISCHARGE PRESSURE
POSSIbLE CAUSE REMEDY
Air demand is too great Repair system air leaks, Add compressor capacity to satisfy
demand.
Air filter dirty Change element as required.
Solenoid valve defective Repair or replace solenoid valve.
Line Pressure Transducer (P2) faulty Replace pressure transducer (P2).
Receiver Pressure Transducer (P1) faulty Replace pressure transducer (P1).
7.4 MACHINE SHORT-CYCLES BETWEEN LOAD & UNLOAD
POSSIbLE CAUSE REMEDY
Check valve portion of minimum pressure valve
defective
Repair or replace check valve.
7.5 PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE OPENS REPEATEDLY
POSSIbLE CAUSE REMEDY
Control settings incorrect Readjust or replace pressure regulating valve.
Pressure relief valve faulty Replace pressure relief valve.
7.6 EXCESSIVE LUbRICANT CONSUMPTION
POSSIbLE CAUSE REMEDY
Separator oil return line clogged Check for line blockage. Clean orifice and strainer located in oil
return sign glass assembly.
Separator element damaged or needs service Change separator element.
Lubrication system leak Check all pipes, connections and components.
Operating pressure below 60 psig. Repair minimum pressure valve.
