5.3 Design, task and function of the assembly groups and components
Design
The clutch is an electromagnetic multi-disc clutch with slip rings, which transmits the torque through frictional
engagement between the input and output sides.
The clutch is designed as a hub clutch and is not suitable for the connection of two shafts.
The magnetic coil (12) in the coil body (2) has been firmly cast in a synthetic resin.
According to the slip ring material (11) (steel or bronze), the clutch can be used with the corresponding disc
pack in dry as well as in wet operation.
Mode of function
Engaging the clutch (electrical)
If the coil is activated with direct current, the armature plate (4) is pulled towards the coil body (2) against the
force of the pressure springs (13). As such, the discs are pressed against each other leading to traction and the
clutch is engaged. When the armature plate (4) moves axially, it slides onto the sleeve (3).
Releasing the clutch (using spring force)
The clutch is disengaged through pressure springs, as soon as the coil is released from the voltage.
5.3.1 Power supply lines
Selection and allocation
Power supply line to rotating coil bodies is done via slip rings and brushes, which are held in special brush hold-
ers.
In dry operation, carbon brushes are used and in wet operation bronze fabric brushes, which are held in spark-
type brush or box-type holders.
