1. Product description
Straumann® SC CARES® Abutments are used for
the restoration of Straumann® Bone Level Ta-
pered Implants ∅ 2.9 mm SC of different lengths.
The Straumann® SC CARES® Abutments allow for
individual customization regarding function and
esthetics. Straumann® CARES® Abutments are
designed by the customer either by scanning of
the intraoral situation and designing of the shape
by the CAD module of the integrated software.
The design data is then sent to Straumann where
the fabrication of the customized abutment is
carried out. These instructions for use are valid
for Straumann® CARES® Titanium Alloy Abut-
ments of the SC (Small CrossFit® prosthetic lines).
For further details, please see additional Strau-
mann brochures identified in section

2. Compatibility information
Straumann implants and the prosthetic line
Small CrossFit® are available in the same internal
configuration to meet your clinical needs. The
label on each product uses abbreviations to help
you identify whether a particular abutment or
coping is compatible with the implant that you
are restoring. Straumann’s Bone Level Tapered
Implant uses the term SC (Small CrossFit®) for
∅ 2.9 mm implant diameters. SC BLT Implants are
only compatible with components marked SC.
Make sure that you use only original Straumann
parts with the corresponding connection for re-
storing of a Straumann implant.
The following table summarizes the information
above:

Note:
You must only restore an implant with
abutments and copings that are compatible with
that implant. Failure to follow this instruction may
harm the patient and / or result in damage to the
implant, components or tooling.
3. Indications for use

are
intended to be placed into Straumann dental im-
plants to provide support for individual crowns.
The
Straumann® CARES® Titanium abutments

or TAN).
4. Side effects and interactions, complica-
tions with Straumann® CARES® Abut-
ments
Failure to follow the procedures outlined in these
instructions may harm the patient and / or lead
to any or all of the following complications:
ѹ
Aspiration of components;
ѹ
Damage to the implant, abutment, components
or tooling;
ѹ
Loosening of the abutment or other components;
ѹ
Improper final restoration or malfunction of
the crown.
ѹ
Impairment of the patient’s chewing function;
ѹ
Failure of the implant and / or
ѹ
Removal of the implant.
5. Warnings
ѹ
In order to ensure the producibility and stability
of the customized abutment, the Straumann®
CARES® Visual software monitors the chosen
abutment design. The software indicates if
the minimum geometry is undershot or the
maximum geometry is overshot. Minimum
and maximum geometries of the customized
abutments cannot be changed by the user.
Please also refer to the Straumann® CARES®
Visual User Manual.
ѹ
Supplied Straumann® CARES® Titanium abut-
ments must not be sandblasted, ground or
polished after delivery. Sandblasting, grind-
ing or polishing of the Straumann® CARES®
Abutments may cause the product to fail. The
handling and use of the product are not within
the control of Straumann and are the responsi-
bility of the user. All liability for loss or damage
is excluded.
ѹ
You must only restore an implant with abut-
ments and copings that are compatible with
the respective implant. Failure to follow this in-
struction may harm the patient and / or result in
damages to the implant, component or tooling.
ѹ
Only use original Straumann parts.
ѹ
Provisional restorations must always be placed
out of occlusion.
ѹ
Always ensure that surfaces of threads and
screw heads are clean and that a new screw
is used for the final restoration. Insert the
screw straight to the implant axis (do not in-
sert tilted).
ѹ
Ensure correct handling of the torque control
device. Torques greater than 35 Ncm may re-
sult in failure of the screw, abutment and / or
implant. Torque values less than the recom-
mended values may result in loosening of the
abutment, which may lead to screw, abutment
and / or implant failures.
ѹ
Any mechanical finishing – e.g. sandblasting,
polishing or grinding – of the abutment is not
permitted.
6. Precautions
ѹ
Our products must be secured to prevent as-
piration during intraoral use or insertion into
the implant.
ѹ
Straumann Abutments and components are
not sterile when delivered and must be ster-
ilized prior to use.
ѹ
Aseptic handling after sterilization procedure
is essential.
ѹ
Provisional cement, cement or any other mate-
rial used for attaching prosthetic components
to others must be processed as specified by
the manufacturer. Failure to follow this instruc-
tion could result in damage to the abutment
(temperatures of 300 °C (572 °F) or a decrease
in strength of titanium parts).
ѹ
Straumann® CARES® Abutments are custom-
ized for a specific patient and are for single
use only.
