Internal Interfaces
The MPC card monitors all interfaces to the library. These interfaces are:
• Client to CAP
• Library-to-HVD or Single-ended SCSI client
• Library-to-LVD SCSI client
• Library-to-drives
• Library-to-Fibre Channel
• Library-to-Personality Module and Horizon L Series Library Monitor
• Library-to-operator panel
• Library-to-SER1 port
• Library-to-CSE port
Client-to-CAP
Cartridges are imported into and exported from the cartridge access port (CAP).
Each CAP has two magazines. The top magazine is numbered one, the bottom
magazine is numbered two. Each cell location in a CAP is assigned an element
number.
There is no restriction on how cartridges are placed into a magazine or CAP.
When the CAP door is closed, the robot will audit all CAP cell locations for
cartridges.
When exporting cartridges, however, the robot will place the target cartridge
into the lowest available element number first.
Library-to-HVD or Single-Ended SCSI Client
The MPC card is jumpered at the factory for SCSI differential operations at J16.
If SCSI single-ended operation is desired, the jumper is moved, and the SCSI
cable from the MPC card to the bulkhead is repositioned at the MPC card
single-ended connector.
Both SCSI operations require 68-pin connectors. Terminating power is supplied
at J18. This is set at the factory to supply terminating power at the library end of
the bus, but may be moved for customers who do not want terminating power
at that library end of the bus.
The jumpers for operation type and terminating power are shown in Figure A-6
on page A-24 .
The MPC card has two client serial ports (J32 and J33). Both the CSE port and
the SER1 port are supported as a command line interface port.
