System maintenance and diagnostics
The following chapters describe how to back up data, restart and maintain the MC6 motion
controller.
9.1
Data backup
Information
STOBER recommends backing up data after commissioning so that the production system can
be restored in the event of a malfunction.
If you want to back up the system, note that the CFast card is divided into three partitions. Back
up a complete copy of all partitions.
Partition C is write-protected by Microsoft with EWF Manager. The second partition, D, is used
to enable saving of non-volatile data at run time. You can store CNC programs, databases,
error logs and other information there.
The third partition is used by the system, so it is only temporarily accessible. Automatically
created backups are stored there. You have the option of storing up to two manually created
backups independent from that. These backups are started by BatchFile. For this it is necessary
to stop the RTE.
Starting from the MC6D version, licenses are no longer on the motion controller itself; instead,
they have been transferred to a USB dongle.
This has multiple advantages:
1.
With series machines, an MC6 can also be backed up on an MC6 of the same design. This
enables you to shorten the commissioning time significantly.
2.
This is also true in case of service: you can use the back-up image not only on the exact
same device, but also on any MC6 of the same design.
3.
The license can be transferred.
4.
You can adjust the sizes of partitions D and X based on your requirements without
invalidating the runtime license.
Information
Every MC6 up to software version C receives the license on the CFast card. After an image is
backed up, the image can run only on exactly this MC6.

Restart
To restart the MC6, press the reset button, located near the power plug. This triggers a cold
start of the system.
