8.1 Troubleshooting Instructions
The NAVIGAT 100 is generally not field-serviceable on the component
level. In case of malfunction, complete sub-assemblies must be
exchanged and the defective sub-assemblies returned to Sperry Marine.
Unless instructed otherwise by Sperry Marine engineering, field service
personnel should limit troubleshooting to:
• Visual inspection of mechanical components, the NAVIGAT 100
mainboard and wiring.
• Continuity checks of wiring connections.
• Checks for short circuit/overload conditions or reversed polarities.
These conditions are indicated by red LEDs on the NAVIGAT 100
mainboard.
• Applying system immanent hard- and software tests in the relevant
service setup menus.
When components on the NAVIGAT 100 mainboard are assumed to
cause malfunction, the complete NAVIGAT 100 mainboard assembly,
stock no. 25830, is to be exchanged.
When components on the baseplate assembly are assumed to cause
malfunction, the complete baseplate assembly, stock no. 25817, is to be
exchanged.
DANGER
Life danger through electrical shock
When the compass is energized, the gyrosphere operating voltage of
100 VAC @ 333 Hz is present on the NAVIGAT 100 mainboard, the gyro-
sphere supply lines and across the gyrosphere contacts.
Be extremely careful when operating the compass while the housing is
open. Do not touch the NAVIGAT 100 mainboard, the connecting cables
to the gyrosphere container or any other conductive components on the
container or in the compass housing.
Always exclude any contact to energized components.
CAUTION
Risk of damage of electrostatic-discharge-sensitive components
The NAVIGAT 100 contains electrostatic sensitive components.
Electrostatic discharge may permanently damage components.
When servicing the NAVIGAT 100, take considerable precautions to pre-
vent electrostatic discharge. Avoid touching any of the electronic cir-
cuitry.
