Configuring Clusters
Note:
Not relevant to the Spectralink IP-DECT Server 400.
Some PBXs support the use of clusters. For more information, see the relevant Interoperability
Guides.
You can group both base stations and media resources in clusters. Grouping devices in clusters will
make them act as a single system (isolated system) and ensure high performance. Using clusters
can be useful in the following situation:
l
Clusters are used in situations where there are multiple locations physically separated using
the same system ARI. Clusters help keep the RTP stream local when possible (internal calls).
l
In a site with two locations, a media resource can be placed in one of the locations and an
amount of base stations can point to that specific media resource if a cluster has been created.
Creating a cluster for a location with a media resource and base station assigned to it, all the
internal traffic in that location is "isolated" from the main system, thus not affected by the traffic.
Though assigned to a cluster, the base stations are not forced to use that particular media resource
only. It just takes priority over the other media resources in the system setup. If the media resource is
used in connection with a redundancy server, a breakdown will not prevent the base stations from
continued operation.
Note:
If using clusters, this must be configured on the PBX. For more information, see the rel-
evant Interoperability Guide and Call Handler Guides.
