monitor.
3. Adjust the levels on each mixer accordingly.
Linking to a 442 or 302
Because the 442 and 302 do not have LINK I/O ports, their signals are taken
from their Mix Out jacks, which are not compatible with LINK I/O, so their gains
have to be adjusted to compensate. When linking from smaller mixers into the
664, using the XL-TA35 cable, their gains have to be increased by about 12 dB
to match the other 664 inputs.
i
The XL-TA35 cable does not provide for linking the headphone buses.
When the 664 is linked with a 442 or 302, all input channels will be present on
the stereo master bus of the 664. Return audio and PFL only occur on the head
-
phone output of the mixer on which it is performed.
To link a 664 to a 442 or a 302:
1. Use the Sound Devices XL-TA35—a 12-inch, TA5F to
TA3F accessory cable, as shown—to connect the Link
I/O of the 664 to the Tape Out/Mix Out connector on
the 442 or 302. This sends the stereo mix of both
mixers directly to the stereo master bus of the 664.
i
The 442 has two Tape Out/Mix Out connectors, a 3.5 mm and a TA3. The connec
-
tor on the 302 is an unbalanced stereo TA3F. For the most secure connection, use
the TA3 Tape Out/Mix Out connector. The TA3 connectors on a 442 and 302 are
wired accordingly: pin 1=ground, pin 2=left, pin 3=right.
2. Monitor and record the stereo sum of all input channels on the master bus
of the 664.
3. Adjust the levels on each mixer accordingly.
Linking to a MixPre-D
Because the MixPre-D does not have a LINK I/O port, its signals are taken from
the Tape Out jack, which means gain must be adjusted to compensate. When
linking a MixPre-D to the 664, using the XL-TA25 cable, the gain has to be ad
-
justed just short of clipping to match the other 664 inputs.
i
The XL-TA25 cable does not provide for linking the headphone buses.
