Chapter 8 SCSI Commands
8.10. READ ATTRIBUTE Command (8Ch)
The READ ATTRIBUTE command is used for an application to read the
contents of the Medium auxiliary Memory (MAM).
Table 8.10.1 : READ ATTRIBUTE command
When the Medium Auxiliary Memory cannot be accessed because there is no
media, the autoloader terminates the READ ATTRIBUTE command with a
CHECK CONDITION status. The Sense Key is NOT READY and ASC/ASCQ
is MEDIUM NOT PRESET.
If there is media but the Medium Auxiliary Memory cannot be accessed for
some reason, the autoloader terminates the READ ATTRIBUTE command with
a CHECK CONDITION status. The Sense Key is MEIUM ERROR and ASC/
ASCQ is AUXILIARY MEMORY NOT ACCESSIBLE.
If reading of the Medium Auxiliary Memory fails, the autoloader terminates the
READ ATTRIBUTE command with a CHECK CONDITION status. The Sense
Key is MEDIUM ERROR and ASC/ASCQ is AUXILIARY MEMORY READ
ERROR.
The ELEMENT ADDRESS specifies the address where the MAM exists as a
component of the media. For example, this may specify the MAM on the media
in the Storage Element or the MAM on the media in the Data Transfer Element.
Note that the ELEMENT ADDRESS information has higher position
information in the hierarchy than VOLUME NUMBER and PARTITION
NUMBER.
