2-2-3. Cleaning the Spindle Motor
Note
•
The optical block assembly in the drive assembly may be broken by static electricity charged in
human body and clothes. Carry out proper grounding and then start cleaning. (Refer to “1-13.
Cautions on Handling the Optical Block Assembly”.)
•
The spindle motor in the drive assembly and the actuator around the objective lens has a strong
magnet. If a screwdriver or the like touches the actuator due to magnetism, the objective lens may be
damaged. Furthermore, if a magnetic substance comes close to the actuator, the actuator
characteristics change. Keep any magnetic substance away from the actuator.
•
The drive assembly consists of precision parts. Be very careful not to damage or apply excessive
force to such parts when cleaning the spindle motor.
Tools
•
Cleaning cloth (or cotton swab)
•
Cleaning fluid (alcohol)
Procedure
1. Remove the cabinet parts. (Refer to “4-2. Removing/Installing the Cabinet”.)
2. Remove the loader assembly. (Refer to “4-3. Loader Assembly”.)
3. Slide the optical block assembly in the direction of arrow A.
4. Remove dust or dirt from the turn table surface and the two cartridge guide supports of the spindle
motor with a cleaning cloth (or cotton swab) moistened with cleaning fluid.
Note
Check that no fiber of the cleaning cloth (or cotton swab) is left on the spindle motor after cleaning.
