Environmental considerations
When servicing, check that the server is located in a
suitable environment. Server performance may be
degraded or components may fail as a result of the server
being operated or stored in an unsuitable environment.
Damage may be caused by condensation or dew formed
inside the equipment. Always allow the equipment to
acclimatise to a new operating environment before
attempting to power up.
If you move the server unit from a cool environment to a
warm one, for example from outside or from a storage
room into an office or equipment room, allow the unit to
stand for 20 minutes to acclimatise to the new
environment. Ensure that the unit is completely free of
condensation before powering up.
• Operating guaranteed temperature: +5°C to +35°C
• Operating humidity: 20% to 80% (relative humidity)
• Storage temperature: -20°C to +60°C
Prohibited locations
Do not install the server in the following environments:
• Areas where the unit will be exposed to direct sunlight or
any other strong lights.
• Dusty areas.
• Areas subject to vibration.
• Areas with strong electric or magnetic fields.
• Areas near heat sources.
• Areas subjected to electrical noise.
• Areas subjected to static electrical noise.
Ventilation
The HDXS-C200 is cooled by internal fans drawing air
through the front of the unit and exhausting through the
vents at the rear of the unit. The server can be damaged if
these exhaust vents (rear panel) or air intake (front panel)
are blocked or the fan is stopped.
Ensure that a clear space of more than 10 cm is maintained
at the front and back of the unit to enable free airflow.
Acoustic noise
Due to the nature of server type products, consideration
should be given to the level of acoustic noise produced. It
is advisable to locate the server in a room acoustically
isolated from users.
Power supply
Ensure that a suitable power supply is provided to power
the server:
Power requirements: 100 to 240 VAC +/-10% 50/60 Hz
Current consumption: Maximum 9.0/5.0 A 115/230 VAC
Inrush current at turn-on is maximum 80/100 A 115/
230 VAC per module, the AC power supply must be
capable of supplying this value.
If the capacity of the AC power is not adequate, the breaker
of the AC power at the supply side may operate or the unit
can operate unreliably.
Sony recommends that this unit be located in a dedicated
server room. Noise levels from the unit may cause people
to feel uncomfortable. If the server is to be used in an office
or other environment where people work for long periods,
it is strongly recommended that the server unit be located
in a well ventilated enclosure with suitable noise
management properties.
