Pin Assignments for the Console’s RS-232 Serial Port
Usually, the console connects directly to the X-Port 30 unit. However, if your integration is
different, you must ensure that the console connects to an RS-232 device that supports
modem controls, using an RS-232 serial cable with standard 9-pin connectors.

RS-232 Port Pin Assignments
As shown in the above configuration, the port provides a DTE connection to a computer. For
the console to function, the following conditions must be met:
•
RTS line (pin 8) must connect to the computer CTS line (pin 8)
•
CTS line (pin 7) must connect to the computer RTS line (pin 7)
•
Transmit Data line (pin 2) must connect to the computer Receive Data line (pin 2)
•
Receive Data line (pin 3) must connect to computer Transmit Data line (pin 3)
•
DTR line (pin 6) (not labeled above) must connect to the computer DSR line (pin 6)
•
DSR line (pin 4) must connect to the computer DTR line (pin 4)
As shown above, the DTR line from the computer loops back to the DSR line via an internal
connection to pin 6 of the console RS-232 port. The computer applies a negative voltage with
respect to ground to the DTR line, which is then also applied to the console DSR line. This
signal causes the console to commence communications with the computer. During operation
of the port, the display transitions the RTS line in adherence to the Windows operating system
plug-and-play standard.
