3.2.1 Processor
The processor is a member of Intel’s 8th generation processor family. Built on a 14nm
process, each processor is 64-bit and multicore. Part of the G-processor line, the processor
uses the BGA1440 package and is connected to a discrete platform controller hub (PCH).
These processors also include a GT2 graphics interface.
3.2.2 Platform Controller Hub
The platform controller hub is a separate IC along with the processor. The PCH controls
certain data paths and support functions used in conjunction with the Intel processor. The
PCH provides extensive I/O support. Some of the key features include:
 ACPI Power Management Support
 Direct Media Interface (DMI)
 Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI)
 PCI Express, Generation 3
 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0
 Serial ATA revision 3.0 (SATA III)
 Low Pin Count (LPC) interface
 Interrupt controller
 Timer functions
3.3 DDR4 Memory
The PCIE-7217 card comes with four DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, two on each processor. Each
DIMM is populated with either 8GB or 16GB of memory. That means each processor has
an 16GB DDR4 memory (8GB in each slot) running at DDR4-2400 speed, resulting a total
32GB of memory on each PCIE-7217 card. The PCIE-7217-x-32 variant has 16GB DIMMs
pre-installed for a total of 32GB DDR4 per processor or 64GB per card.
Each DDR4 SO-DIMM slot is capable of supporting up to 16GB SO-DIMMs. 32GB SO-
DIMMs are not supported.
