Improper use of the bypass funktion
may result in leakage of hot lubricating
oil. That is why protective gloves and
goggles should be worn when mainte-
nance work is performed.
If the locking pin of the bypass valve
locking pin is screwed out too f (from
the housing) with a subsequent escape
of hot lubricating oil.
So only loosen the bypass valve locking
pin by the amount speciied. ar (9.3 /
9.4), the bypass valve may disengage
9.1 General remarks
The SMD 1B, SMD 2 and SMD 3 low meters
basically work maintenance-free. But external
particles of dirt and overaged oil can damage
the low meters. That is why care must be
taken not to allow any particles of dirt or oil
carbon to be deposited in the gear chambers,
tooth lanks or throttle screws. Improper lushing
luids can damage both the plastic gears and
seals. That is why attention must be paid to
the permissibility of the lushing medium when
the low meter is cleaned with such a luid. SKF
should be consulted if necessary.
The following bypass descriptions,
”Open bypass function” (9.3) and ”Close
bypass function” (9.4) refer to low me
-
ters delivered up to 14 August 2002 .
The external distinguishing features are
two through-holes in the plastic cover
which are used (
on versions delivered
up to 14 August 2002 ) to adjust the
locking pins (Fig. 12). On low meters
delivered after the above date there are
no through-holes. For this version use
the bypass description ”Open bypass
function” (9.5) and ”Close bypass func-
tion” (9.6).

details (for SMD 1B / SMD 2 low me

ters) refer to the following illustration
(Fig. 12). In this case the throttle screws
are located on the left side of the low
meters (SMD 1B or SMD 2).
Please note!
When the bypass function is active, a
fault signal is tripped on the monitoring
unit associated with the low meter sin
-
ce there are no pulses due to diversion
of the oil low.
