If the fiber optic cable connections between the SLB modules are not in good
order or have been damaged (e.g. kinked), it can happen that the SIMOLINK
will continue to function. Depending on how badly transmission is affected,
CRC or timeout errors will occur (possibly after a considerable time has
elapsed). The errors will occur in the SIMOLINK module that is downstream (in
the transmission direction) of the bad connection. The occurrence of such
errors can be tested with the aid of diagnostics parameter r748 (see function
diagram 140). The diagnostics counter in r748.002 counts the CRC errors, and
the counter in r748.003 the timeout errors. From firmware version V1.50
onwards, these counters can also be connected to the trace memory via
connectors K7082 (CRC) and K7083 (timeout). The diagnostics counters are
reset every time the power is switched (OFF) ON. After the power has been
switched ON and initialization completed, the CRC error count should stand at
zero and the timeout error count at 1, 2 or 3.
