Danger when openly storing rotors
The rotors of the synchronous machines contain permanent magnets with high magnetic flux
densities and strong attraction forces to ferromagnetic bodies.
You must observe the following safety instructions to prevent death, injury or material damage:
• It is not permissible that persons with heart pacemakers come close to openly stored rotors.
• Secure openly stored motors so that they cannot come into contact with one another.
• Avoid that openly stored rotors knock against metal objects which could potentially damage
them.
• Data stored on electronic data carriers can be destroyed.
The synchronous machines have the same operational reliability and require less maintenance
than standard three-phase induction motors. When installed, the permanent magnets are
insensitive to shock, knocks and aging.
The rotors of synchronous machines can be removed and openly stored without the magnetic
circuit having to be closed. When installing and removing, the rotor attaches itself to the stator
as a result of the integrated permanent magnets. When removed, protect the rotor against
pollution by magnetic waste, for example with a plastic bag.
11.7 Disposal of components
Components
The machines consist mainly of steel and various proportions of copper and aluminum. Metals
are generally considered to be unlimitedly recyclable.
Sort the components for recycling according to whether they are:
• Iron and steel
• Aluminum
• Non-ferrous metal, e.g. windings
The winding insulation is incinerated during copper recycling.
• Insulating materials
• Cables and wires
• Electronic waste
