OSx Station Control

SIMATIC PCS 7 OSx 4.1.2 Operator
Re_Sync Command (continued)
Keep the following considerations in mind when you issue a
Re_Sync
command.
If you select the command
Re_Sync
from Network Setup, but decide not to
confirm the command, the system dismisses Network Setup when you select
No
to the
Are you sure?
prompt. You must reselect
Network Setup.
If you resynchronize a station that has the backup role, the station assumes
the normal role after synchronization has completed. To set the station’s role
to backup again, you must access Network Setup and use the
Role_Change
command.
The synchronization process consists of the transfer of database, graphic,
and history files. The time required for synchronizing an OSx station
depends on the number and size of the files that are out of sync and can
take several minutes. During synchronization, the reference copy of the
database on the primary is locked for about one minute. During this time,
the system continues to update graphics and collect trend data. However,
database updates from reports and BCL programs are delayed since these
processes run on the primary. Operator commands on values residing in the
controller are not delayed. Operator commands on values residing only in
the OSx database, and not in the controller, are delayed.
NOTE:
While the database is locked during synchronization, the operator
cannot change system state or the role of an OSx station. After the database
is unlocked, synchronization continues for a period of time that can be
several minutes if there is a large number of trend points in the system.
During this part of synchronization, the operator can change system state,
but cannot make role changes.
The operator needs to keep these considerations in mind and choose an
appropriate time when the system is lightly loaded for resynchronizing a
station. Synchronize stations one at a time, and synchronize the supervisory
stations first. If possible, set the system to the Offline state before
synchronizing stations.
The system could overwrite any customized files on the synchronizing
station. In general, synchronization removes graphics, BCL programs,
report executable files and outputs, trends, archives, and logs on the
synchronizing station if the corresponding file does not exist on the primary
when the synchronization occurs. A file that is in the process of being
edited, but has not yet been validated or compiled, is not removed.
