6.4.1 Notes on the expansion cards
Notes on specifications
The device is designed for the following types of expansion cards:
● PCI specification 2.3
● PCIe Gen 2, expansion cards of the PCIe type Gen 1 and Gen 2 are supported.
● PCIe Gen 3, expansion cards of the PCIe type Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3 and PEG are
supported.
PCI expansion cards with 5 V and 3.3 V supply voltage can be operated.
NOTICE
Malfunctions on the machine or plant
Failure to comply with the defined mechanical defaults in the specification can result in
contact problems, malfunctions and assembly difficulties. This could result in malfunctions
on the machine or plant.
• Observe the defined mechanical defaults in the specification.

Observe the permitted dimensions of the expansion cards. For more information, please
refer to the chapter "Dimension drawings".
Notes for long PCI/PCIe expansion cards
Long PCI/PCIe expansion cards must be fitted with an extender for insertion into the guide
rails; the extender should be included in the scope of delivery of the long PCI/PCIe board.
Note on PROFINET expansion cards
The "CP 1616 onboard" option must be disabled in the BIOS for devices with CP 1616
onboard, before a PROFINET card, such as a CP 1616, can be installed in the system.
