C-PLUG/Key-PLUG
C-PLUG
The C-PLUG is an exchangeable storage device that can save all the settings of
the device. If replacing a device, insert the C-PLUG from the defective device into
the replacement device. The replacement device will automatically start with the
same settings.
Newer MSPS devices also have an option that additionally saves the firmware
version along with the configuration on the C-PLUG. In this case, the replacement
device first performs an update (if necessary) and then applies the settings.
Note
SCALANCE devices have internal storage; the C-PLUG is optional. Changes are
always saved automatically, both internally and on the C-PLUG.

C-PLUG 256MB
MSPS
The 32MB C-PLUG currently functions in all SCALANCE devices.
The 256MB version is recommended for current MSPS devices. The reason for this
is the option for saving the firmware on the PLUG. 32MB is no longer enough
storage for the firmware of some product families (SCALANCE SC-600,
SCALANCE XM-400/500).
SCALANCE X-200 and SCALANCE X-300 devices can only work with the 32MB
C-PLUG.
Key-PLUG
Key-PLUGs have the same storage capacity as the 256MB C-PLUG and offer the
same set of features.
Note
Key-PLUGs function exclusively in the devices on which they are set up to unlock
the feature in question.
For example, a SINEMA RC Key-PLUG cannot be used in a SCALANCE SC-600
but only in a SCALANCE S615.
