5.4.2 How to install on a network
Preparation
If you want to install several PCs via network connections, preparatory steps are required. To
be able to install on multiple computers at the same time, you need to make the contents of
both SIMATIC PCS 7 DVDs available in a separate storage location (shared network path).
The following rules apply to the storage.
Rules
● The folders must be called "DVD_1" or "DVD_2" and must be located within a shared folder.
Note
Create a network copy of the two SIMATIC PCS 7 DVDs with the following structure:
…\PCS7_Vxx\DVD_1\
…\PCS7_Vxx\DVD_2\
● The name of the access path to the network copy of the DVDs (including the folder "DVD_1"
or "DVD_2") cannot contain more than 85 characters.
● Make sure the PC is set up to automatically restore the link to the directory containing the
PCS 7 software after a PC restart.
● Set up a share for the directory (folder or drive) on which the PCS 7 software is available.
● Set up the following access rights for the share:
– Operating user: Read
– System: Read
Procedure
1. Copy the files of the DVD to the respective folder.
Then continue working on the PC on which you want to install PCS 7.
2. In Windows Explorer look for the folder in the network on which you saved the copy of the
DVD.
3. Call up the setup.
