Operating the
answering machine
You can operate the answering machine
integrated in the base station with the
handset, the keypad of your base station
or the remote control (other phone/
mobile phone). You can control listening
to messages by remote control with voice
commands (page 43).
You can set the answering machine indi-
vidually with the Gigaset S44 handset.
Mailboxes
You can add up to
three mailboxes
to the
answering machine. Up to three tele-
phone users then have their "own"
answering machines.

You can use the answering machine in
two different modes.

your announcement but cannot leave a
message.

The following prompts are displayed if you
have changed the number of mailboxes:
u
whether to erase messages still on the
answering machine. You can only
change the number of mailboxes when
there are no more messages.
u
whether you want to re-record the
answering machine announcement.
The remaining recording time is
announced after activating. The symbol
×
appears in the handset's display.
The phone is delivered with a standard
announcement for the recording and
announce only mode. The appropriate
standard announcement is used if you
have not recorded your own personal
announcement.
Note about mailboxes
You can only record an announcement for
your answering machine. If you want to
use several mailboxes you have to record
a message which tells the caller which
mailbox to select.
Example:
"... Press 1 if you want to leave
a message for Anna or 2 for Michael."
The caller's message is recorded in
Mailbox 2
if he presses "2".
The message is automatically recorded in
Mailbox 1
if a caller enters a wrong mailbox
number or the selected mailbox is not set
up.
