Needle Visualization
This setting improves the display of needles during procedures by brightening linear structures,
such as needles, when they are perpendicular to steered frames activated by the user.
It adjusts the system’s spatial compounding function to emphasize steering angles that may
improve the display of needles. It also adjusts other image parameters, such as speckle filter,
for this purpose.
If you specify Needle Visualization as one of your User Selected Keys in the System
Administration settings (see “Administrative Options” on page 3-8), Needle V will be a
dedicated key in the Real-time Control bar, and will not be listed in the Tools menu.
When the
Needle V key is active it has six settings (the default setting is OFF). Turn the small
knob or select the “+” or “-“ button on the probe to pick a setting:
■ ON: needle entering from the side of probe with the index marker, with steep angle.
■ ON: needle entering from the side of probe with the index marker, with shallow angle.
■ OFF
■ ON: needle entering from opposite the side of probe with the index marker, with shallow
angle.
■ ON: needle entering from opposite the side of probe with the index marker, with steep
angle.
■ ON: needle enhancement without steering angle.
When one of the ON settings is active, a graphic overlay will appear on the image. The dotted
line through the image approximates the steered angles active for that setting for brightening
the display of a needle. For optimal display, the needle would be on a path that is perpendicular
to this dotted line. Other linear shapes in the image that are perpendicular to this line, may also
appear brighter.
Press the system console
Needle V
key to turn the most recently used Needle Visualization
setting ON and OFF. If you specify Needle Visualization as the User Selected Key for the
Probe middle keys, pressing either of the Probe’s middle keys three times will also turn the
most recently used Needle Visualization setting ON and OFF.
NOTE: Needle Visualization can also be used in Color Flow mode.
