Signal connections
The data cable for X.21 or G.703.1 interface has to be at least of the type S/UTP (Screened
Unshielded Twisted Pair). An S/UTP-cable consists of a plastic sheath and a full length
screen which contain the cores stranded in pairs. The screen may be a copper braid or
aluminium foil or both. A type S/FTP (Screened Foil Twisted Pair) cable may also be used.
This type of data cable has an additional metallic foil around the cores stranded in pairs.
Voltage connections
Direct connection: Solid or stranded conductors with end ferrules
for cross-sections of 0.13 mm
2
to 0.52 mm
2
, corresponding to AWG 26 to 20.
Use copper conductors only!
Earthing connection
Use a solid, low-impedance and low-inductance business earthing and put these together
with at least a M4 screw. Mass and earthing ribbons DIN 72333, form A. Connect the ribbon
with the protection conductor of the switchboard or the cupboard.
D SUB-plug
A 15-pole D SUB-plug serves as the connection for the interface X.21 (Figure 5). Standard
15-pin D-subminiature plug connectors conforming to MIL-C-24308 and DIN 41 652 can be used.
Figure 5 D SUB-plug
The 15-strand data line must be twisted and screened. The pin assignment can be seen in
Figure 6. The byte-timing is not supported. Between the communication converter and the
X.21 interface of the communication device, it is recommended to have short connenctions,
in order to avoid electrical interferences. The communication converter should be installed
near to the communication device (DCE).
