When a menu is being displayed, there is an icon at the top of the screen which looks like the
COURSE CHANGE
knob, but with a line drawn through it. This is a reminder that the knob is
not available for its normal function of changing the boat’s course – because the knob is now
being used to change parameter values.
The autopilot’s mode indicator letter continues to be displayed in menus. The current mode
may not be the same as the menu (since all menus can be accessed in any mode). For
example, in
Figure 53
both the mode (`S´) and the menu are
STANDBY
– but the mode
could be any of the others: `P´ (
POWER STEER
), `A´ (
AUTO
), etc.
All menus – except Dockside Setup – have a time-out feature. This time-out triggers after
about
10 seconds if no button presses, or movements of the
COURSE CHANGE
knob, are
detected during that time-out interval.
When a menu times out, the display reverts to the previously active display, just as though
you had double-pressed the mode button again.
Rudder Angle Indicator (RAI)
At the bottom of the screen in all operating modes is the Rudder Angle Indicator (
Figure 53
)
On a SP38 system, the RAI shows the current position of the boat’s rudder, as
measured by the Rudder Follower Unit.
Call Factory for availability of this option.
A “V” in a small box is shown at the right end of the RAI, to indicate that the autopilot is using
the Virtual Rudder Feedback feature.
Caution:
The estimated rudder position on a SP38VS may not always be accurate. Please
refer to the Cautions
section for more information.
The current or estimated rudder position is shown by a solid bar extending from the centre to
the right for Starboard rudder, or to the left for Port (rudder Dead Ahead, i.e., at 0°). The
numerical scale above the bar (in degrees) is expanded around the centre, and compressed
at the ends.
Starboard is always indicated by a green arrow, and Port by a red arrow.
The maximum length of the rudder position bar is defined by the rudder travel limit values
detected or entered during setup. In this same bar, the rudder travel limits are displayed
numerically.
Figure 53
shows both Port and Starboard limits as 30°.
Caution:
On a SP38VS without an RFU, the position bar does not appear in
STANDBY
mode. The rudder travel limits bar is shown, but is always the default full length (40°to either
side), no matter the limits entered during setup.
Whenever the autopilot is moving the boat’s rudder to Port or Starboard, a small “rudder
movement” arrow symbol will be shown at the corresponding end of the RAI.
