6 Adjustment
Always stop the engine and disengage the
main clutch and reel blade clutch before
adjusting the reel blade and bed knife.
When turning the reel blade, always use the
blade alignment tool.
Do not touch it directly with hand.
<Moving Forward and Turning>
When the machine is delivered, the clearance between the reel blade and bed knife is widened so as
to prevent accidents caused by the reel blade during transport. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the
clearance before mowing.
If the sharp edge of the blade has been lost during mowing, you will need to sharpen the reel blade
and adjust the clearance between the reel blade and bed knife. When the clearance between the reel
blade and bed knife is to be adjusted then do so in accordance with the procedure in “Adjustment of
Reel Blade and Bed knife” on this page.
Even after adjustment of the clearance between the reel blade and bed knife, the edge is still not
improved, sharpen (lap) the reel blade. Refer to “Edge Adjustment with lapping (Sharpening the Reel
Blade)” on pages 32 and 33.
If stripes or blocks are left on the lawn after adjustment between the reel blade and bed knife and the
lapping adjustment then contact our business or sales office.
<Adjustment of Reel Blade and Bed Knife>
To adjust the reel blade and bed knife, tear newspapers
into slips of about 50 mm wide.
Place the lawn mower body on level ground and tilt it
backward. Then, ground the stand so that the machine
does not move.
Always use the blade alignment tool when the reel blade
is to be turned. Do not touch the blade with your hand.
Insert the newspaper slips at the center, right and left of
the reel blade (three locations) and turn the reel blade
downward, using the blade alignment tool to check the
edge.
If the newspaper cannot be cut the clearance between
the reel blade and bed knife is too large.
If the clearance is too large, turn the bed knife adjusting
handle (right and left) clockwise and so reduce the
clearance.
