INSTALLATION
19
3.5
Connecting a PC
The software for service communication with the SERVOTOUGH LaserExact is
supplied with the instrument and will run under Windows98/2000/XP/Vista/7. The
service program requires no installation. Please note that the PC should be placed in
an explosion safe area. For long distance communication we recommend to use the
optional Ethernet connection.
1.
Copy the software supplied with the CD onto the hard disk into a specified
directory, which may be called for example “LaserExact”.
2.
Connect a PC serial port to the RS-232 connection on the connection PCB
(Figure 6-1) using the supplied serial cable and gender changer. The service
program uses the serial port configured as 9600 baud, no parity, 8 bits and 1
stop bit. If network communication is used, connect the network cable to the
Base-T connector on the connection PCB (Figure 6-1). Note that in this case
the serial cable must be disconnected from the instrument.
3.
Thoroughly check the following parameters against the installation details and
set them using the software (see Chapter 4 for detailed description):
- Process gas pressure and temperature
(Chapter 4.3.5)
- Instrument gas alarm level
(Chapter 4.3.6)
- Gas concentration corresponding to 4 and 20 mA
(Chapter 4.3.5)
- Concentration averaging
(Chapter 4.3.5)
- Instrument time
(Chapter 4.3.5)
- Gas concentration unit
(Chapter 4.3.6)
- Optical path parameters
(Chapter 4.3.5)
Having completed the setting of all necessary parameters, the instrument is in normal
operation mode and should indicate this by updating the gas concentration on the
LCD periodically. Operation, maintenance and calibration of the instrument are
further explained in Chapter 5.
3.6
Installing a modem
Note that an optional modem must be located outside the Ex area.
A standard 56k analogue modem is connected to the instrument via the service
connector (ref. Figure 6-1). Use a null modem cable or an adapter together with the
RS-232 cable between modem and instrument. NB: A gender changer may be
required between the cables.
In addition to the modem connected to the instrument, a standard 56k analogue
modem capable of 9600 baud has to be connected to one of the PC’s serial ports. At
start-up of the instrument the modem is initialised, and at start-up of the service
program the PC-modem is initialised. No additional configuration of the modems is
necessary. Reset the instrument!
